Terms of Service
What's allowed, what gets removed, and what the operator will never do.
Using tg.pe means accepting the rules below. They exist for one reason: to make it possible for one person to keep a free, anonymous URL shortener online without it becoming a launchpad for fraud.
You can shorten
Any URL you have the right to share and that stays safe to visit. The Web channel on tg.pe is anonymous and rate-limited. The Telegram channel via @tgpebot is identity-bound and gets lighter rate limits in exchange.
The guiding rule: a tg.pe link must be safe for anyone to click, and safe for every browser, security vendor, and network filter to trust. Anything that would put the whole domain's reputation at risk is not allowed — even if it happens to be legal somewhere.
Links the operator will remove
Without notice, without legal process required, on the basis of a credible report or the operator's own observation.
Illegal or malicious — removed; the submitter may be banned; some categories are also reported to the relevant authorities:
- Phishing — fake login or payment pages imitating banks, mail providers, social media, parcel delivery, government services, or any real brand
- Malware & malicious code — viruses, trojans, ransomware, drive-by exploits, cryptojacking, botnet or command-and-control endpoints, "potentially harmful applications"
- Child sexual abuse material — any depiction, no exceptions; also reported to the relevant authorities
- Scams & fraud — fake delivery notices, fake bank alerts, fake job offers, romance or investment scams, illegal gambling promotion
- Spam & unsolicited bulk links — links spread through spam email, SMS, or mass unsolicited messaging anywhere; this is the fastest way to get a shortener domain blocklisted, so it is enforced strictly
- Illegal or regulated goods — drugs, weapons, counterfeit products, or unlicensed pharmaceuticals
- Violent extremism & terrorism — terrorist content, or incitement to violence
- Targeted harassment, defamation, or doxxing — content that names a specific person to threaten, defame, or expose their private information
- Anything unlawful in Taiwan (where the operator is based), or unlawful in the destination country where credibly reported
Also not allowed — these can be legal somewhere, but they would get the whole domain distrusted by browsers, security vendors, and school / workplace / family filters. This is not a moral judgment; keeping them off is what keeps every other link on the domain safe:
- Adult or sexual content — pornography or other material not safe for all audiences
- Copyright or trademark infringement — pirated media or software, cracks, illegal streaming, counterfeit storefronts
- Deceptive redirect behaviour — cloaking, showing security scanners something different from real visitors, changing the destination after submission, or chaining tg.pe to slip past another service's filter
When a link comes down: it returns HTTP 404, the submitter behind it may be banned, and the destination domain may be added to the block list or high-risk list so future submissions to it are refused or flagged.
Appeals against a removal go to help@tg.pe. Include the short code and destination URL; reviewed personally, with a reply within days.
What the operator will not do
- Sell or share your submitter identifier (Telegram user ID, or IP address + country code) with third parties — except under a Taiwan court order
- Inject tracking, advertising, or analytics into your destination URL
- Modify your destination URL — with one exception: platform-added click trackers (
fbclid,igshid,gclid, etc.) are automatically removed so the link the recipient clicks is the link you actually intended - Charge any fee for normal use
Bans
Telegram users may be banned after submitting links covered by "Links the operator will remove" above. Banning retroactively soft-deletes the user's entire link history. The high-volume cases that need banning are tracked publicly in the Transparency Report.
Web submitters are rate-limited by IP. Persistent abuse from an IP range may lead to IP- or ASN-level blocking. The Web channel cannot be banned by user identity because Web submissions are anonymous; identity-level enforcement is reserved for identity-bound channels.
The service may change or end
tg.pe is run as a personal project by Sean Wei. The operator may, at any time:
- Add or adjust safety checks
- Change rate limits, quotas, or eligible domains
- Discontinue the service entirely — in which case existing short links would stop resolving
Reasonable notice will appear in the Transparency Report.
